Made in the Shade - Bible Study

Psalm 91

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

People use this statement, “Made in the Shade” when things are going well.

When nothing has got them bogged down. When nothing is too heavy on their mind.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High

This is not talking about a physical place. This is not an underground hide-out somewhere.

But this is talking about a secret place of the Spirit and of the Mind. This secret place is a place that we all need to be in. The secret place of the most High is a place that God wants us all to be.

A place where you are in constant contact with the Lord. It is a place of peace.

A place where the Lord is the most important thing in your life, and you are completely sold out to Him. A place where, by faith, you choose God over everything else.

A secret place is not a place that everybody has found. A secret place sometimes can be hard to find. But this secret place of the most High is a place for everybody. It’s available for everybody to find.

In this world there are 99 things out of 100 that are going to try to keep you from finding this secret place, but it’s still real, and it’s still for everybody.

Notice the first 3 words of this passage, “He that dwelleth”.

He didn’t say to run around and do whatever you want to, and then run back to this secret place when something is wrong. He didn’t say to visit once in a while. But the psalmist said, “He that dwelleth”.

We’ve got to dwell in that secret place.

We’ve got to sit down there.

We’ve got to inhabit that place.

We’ve got to live there in that place.

Not a temporary fling, but a permanent dwelling place.

It is the character of a true Christian that he dwells in the secret place of the most High.

They love to spend time with Jesus.

They are at home with Jesus.

They love to learn more about Jesus.

They love to talk with Jesus.

And it is the privilege of those that will do so, those that will truly dwell in the secret place of the most High, that they shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Under that shadow, there is safety. It is a shelter. Under this shadow, God comes between you and all the things that want to hinder you, whether it’s a storm or if it’s the sunshine. When you are under this shadow, you have the protection of the Lord in your life.

David tells about what is in store for all those who will find that secret place.

You can take heart that these scriptures are to you and to me. David was talking to everyone that will find that secret place. Verse 9 says, Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

That’s the reason for all this help and protection. The Lord favor His children. There are some great benefits that come from living for the Lord. And one of those benefits is having it Made in the Shade

Matthew 11:28-30

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Come unto me Drop what your doing and come unto me. Whatever you’ve been doing is not working

all ye that labour and are heavy laden Those that are sick of the world Those that are tired of doing things the worlds way and I will give you rest.

He will give you rest from those heartaches. He will give you rest from the weights of the world. He will give you rest from the disappointment and discouragement that comes when you’re doing it on your own. 

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me……. and ye shall find rest unto your souls. There had been some things, some ordinances that had been imposed by church, that brought on an intolerable, impossible yoke. 

But Jesus said, “That’s not Me! This is not the way I want it. I’m not Crude and Overbearing.

I’m Meek and Lowly, And if you’ll take on my yoke, not the yoke of the world, but if you’ll take on my yoke, And learn about me, You’ll find rest in your souls. REST in your Souls. Because My yoke is easy, and the burden that comes with me is light.

A place called Calvary, Jesus Christ took it on Himself to give up his very own blood, to give up His very own life, to give up everything for me and for you.

And when He paid that ultimate price, sin was defeated, the devil and all his imps were defeated, the power of healing was given to us because of the stripes that He took, He made us more than conquerors, and He made us overcomers by that blood of the Lamb.

And no matter what the devil tries, he can try you, he can tempt you, he can send those fiery darts your way, but he can never take away from you what the Lord has given you, because the price has already been paid in full. And because of that, you can find rest in your Soul!

Things may seem impossible, but once you make your way into that secret place, you can have rest.

Try to do it on your own and you’re sure to fail, and you’re sure to get tired on the way to failure, but if you’ll drop what you’re doing and turn to Him and learn to dwell in that secret place…You can find that rest, and you can have it Made In The Shade!

David had got to that point, to where he was able to maintain that “Made in the Shade” mindset.

The most familiar scripture in the Bible. Psalm 23 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

You can add one word to this scripture and make it really easy to understand what David was saying.

1 The LORD is my shepherd; Therefore, I shall not want. The LORD is my shepherd; And because of that, I shall not want.

David had found that secret place. David had found a place where he didn’t have to want for anything. He found a place where he didn’t have to ponder on the problems all the time.

A place where worrying had become nearly extinct. A place where all he wanted to do is lift up the Lord and praise the Lord. David had got to that place where he had it Made in the Shade. Because he allowed the Lord to be his shepherd.

A good shepherd watches his sheep with and ever watching eye. He makes it his prime concern to watch those sheep constantly. He watches to make sure they stay where they are supposed to stay. He watched to make sure they have what they need. He watches to make sure they are all still there. He watches to make sure they are safe.

A good shepherd listens for his sheep. If he hears a cry, he knows something is wrong. But his ear must be open to their cry.

1 Peter 3:12

12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

A good shepherd leads his sheep where they are supposed to go. If they are in a pasture that doesn’t have much grass left, he will lead them into a greener pasture. 

Romans 8:14

14   For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

A good shepherd protects his flock from danger. When the coyotes or other danger come around, that shepherd is there to protect his sheep. If something tries to harm one of his sheep, that shepherd will stop at nothing to protect his sheep. He will do whatever it takes to rescue that sheep. 

Psalms 18:2

2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler (shield), and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

John 10:11-14

11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.

13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

The Lord is the ultimate shepherd. None has been or ever will be like Him. One that loves His sheep so much that He gave up His own life for His flock.

The difference between the shepherd and the hireling. When the danger comes. When the trials come. When the real test comes. There is only one true shepherd, and His name is Jesus.

You can try to replace Him if you want to, but when the real trials come, there is only one true shepherd that will be with you unconditionally.

But if we are going to let the Lord be our shepherd, we have got to be willing to be the sheep.

We’ve got to be quiet and humble, go where the shepherd leads us, be submitted to His every command, be silent when the shearer comes, know the shepherds voice and follow Him.

David learned how to do this. He learned how to let the Lord truly be his shepherd.

And he found that secret place, that resting place. He had it Made in the Shade.

Cast yourself upon God.

2 Timothy 1:12

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

You can lay it all on Him, and He is able to handle it. You don’t have to worry if it’s too much for Him to handle. You don’t have to worry about Him getting mad if you overload Him, because He don’t get overloaded. Just cast yourself on the Lord. Just give Him everything you’ve got.

Commit your way to God.

Psalms 37:5

5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

When the world is committing their way to everything imaginable, we’ve got to commit our way to the Lord. We’ve got to be sold out every day. We’ve got to let Him guide our every step.

Commit your works to the Lord.

Proverbs 16:3

3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Commit thy works. If you will commit your way to the Lord, then your works are going to follow. Some people hesitate to talk about works, but my Bible bears out that there are going to be some works that follow a true Christian. Not works to put on a show. But works that naturally come from the Spirit of the Lord in you.

Let the Lord bear your burdens.

Psalms 60:12

12 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

The things that have tried to get you down…. You don’t have to fight those things all alone.

Give them to the Lord. Give those burdens to the One that can take care of them. He shall tread down your enemies. Don’t try to do it alone.

Cast your cares upon the Lord.

1 Peter 5:7

7   Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

The things that are on your mind. The things that are important to you. The things that you have been concerned with. He wants you to put those things in His hands. He wants you to cast those cares that you have on Him. He’s got supernatural ways of taking care of things, but you’ve got to give it to Him before He will handle it.

Let’s give ourselves to the Lord and begin to have rest in our lives.

Next time somebody asks you how things are going, tell them you’ve got it “Made in the shade”. And in the back of your mind, remember what that really means, to have it Made in the Shade.
