13Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

Covenant context

As we continue through the Historical Books of the Bible, we discover God was already establishing His new covenant with David. God kept His promise that David would always have a descendant on the throne through the man Christ Jesus, who was heralded in the New Testament as the son of David.
